LEANNE ROWETT

Informed by the diversity and innate affiliation of nature, Leanne Rowett’s art practice explores themes of interconnectedness, perception and equilibrium. She examines the theoretical frameworks of Biophilia and mathematical archetypes of art, nature and science to seek universal truth of oneness, environmental kinship and evolution beyond dualities. Her current body of work engages with meditative practices and interpretations of sensorial responses to ephemeral elements of light, atmosphere and forms in nature. Through the interplay of archetypal geometry and biomorphic forms, her unified compositions seek to transcend dualities of spirit and matter, nature and geometry, and masculine and feminine, highlighting the profound connection between humankind and the environment.

Rowett juxtaposes hard-edge abstraction and soft-edge gradient techniques to create moments of stillness and movement, light and dark, flatness and depth to achieve ethereal qualities and emotional tenor. Through an abstract visual language of line, colour and form, thin layers of oil paint are meticulously applied on cotton canvas and aluminium to create luminous enigmatic paintings. Her ambiguous compositions seek to evoke curiosity, contemplation and an emotional response in the viewer.
