LEANNE ROWETT

Informed by the diversity and innate affiliation of nature, Leanne Rowett’s art practice investigates the theoretical frameworks of Biophilia and mathematical archetypes of art, nature and science. Her core concern is the imbalance of patriarchal systems dominating contemporary society, creating gender inequality, disconnect from natural elements and humankind. Working across photography and painting, her current body of work explores themes of spirituality, balance and interconnectedness to seek universal truth, environmental stewardship and evolution beyond dualities.

Derived from geometric archetypes, environmental observations and the human form, Rowett employs an abstract visual language of line, colour and form to create an integration of geometric shapes and biomorphic forms. She juxtaposes hard-edge abstraction and soft-edge gradient techniques to create moments of stillness and movement, light and dark, flatness and depth to achieve oppositional symmetry. With a luminous application of oil paint and atmospheric qualities, her enigmatic paintings seek to invite the viewer to consider metaphysical dimensions beyond reality.
