HUIXIN (NIXSA) ZHENG
Huixin Zheng is a contemporary artist whose work blends ceramics and digital media to explore themes of identity, subconscious, and memory. Born in China and currently based in South Australia, Huixin draws inspiration from traditional Chinese script and symbols, incorporating these cultural elements into her modern practice. Her recent projects integrate augmented reality with handcrafted ceramics, inviting audiences to experience art through both tangible and digital interactions.
‘Ink in the Wind’(2024) examines resilience, identity, and strength through a combination of ceramic forms and augmented reality (AR). This installation, composed of 12 bisque-fired ceramic pieces, uses ancient Nüshu script as a symbol of female empowerment and solidarity. Through stages that separate text from its literal meaning, I emphasize the text's materiality, allowing it to exist as pure form. The AR component enhances this experience by projecting animated ink droplets that gather, disperse, and reform, reflecting the fluid and ever-evolving nature of memory and self.
